From the Maslanka Archive features media and stories of David’s life and work. Did you work with David? Please consider contributing material.
We are proud to present a new feature coming to you every Thursday entitled From the Maslanka Archive. We are actively building the Archive, but it won’t be ready for public viewing for a while. In the meantime, we wanted to show off some great items we’ve already collected.
We also wanted to inspire YOU to help grow the collection. We would love to feature you in an upcoming edition! Simply provide us with photos, video, audio, or stories of your time together and you may find them on the front page.
This week, we are excited to feature a complete audio recording of the concert that took place on Friday, July 16, 2022 in Naperville, IL by Dr. Stephen K. Steele and the Wind Symphony Alumni Ensemble.
For six days in the middle of July, nearly sixty of Dr. Steele’s finest Wind Ensemble alumni from a span of twenty-five years (1988-2012) came to Naperville, Illinois – on their own dime – to rehearse the music of David Maslanka and put the rest of their personal and professional lives on hold.
This performance featured three important works from David’s late compositional period: Angel of Mercy, Requiem, and Symphony No. 10 – The River of Time.
Thanks to Dr. Stephen K. Steele, Mark Iwinski, Ryan Krapf, and Kent Krause for helping this project come to fruition. Without their tireless effort, the recording would not have been possible. Please click here if you want to read about what went into making this concert a reality!
