Program Note
In four movements, this work, with its roots in the string quartets of both Bartok and Carter, explores a very intense and varied musical terrain. In my compositional output it preceded Symphony No.1 and the Concerto for Piano, Winds and Percussion, and shares a lot with the musical aesthetic of both these pieces.
