From the Program Notes: We cordially invite you to the join us as The University of Texas Wind Ensemble presents their final concert of the fall semester on Friday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Bates Recital Hall. The concert features Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and actress, Hila Plitmann, in a program that features works by Leonard Bernstein, John Mackey, and David Maslanka. The concert begins with Bernstein’s ‘Profanation’ from the second movement of Symphony No. 1, "Jeremiah," which received the New York Music Critics’s circle award for best classical composition in 1944. This performance will be conducted by our doctoral conducting associate, Cheldon Williams. Next, we continue with Mackey’s "Songs from the End of the World." Our soloist will be Hila Plitmann—a glittering jewel on the international music scene, known worldwide for her astonishing musicianship, light and beautiful voice and the ability to perform challenging new works. She has worked with many leading conductors, performing with the likes of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. Following a brief intermission, the concert concludes with David Maslanka’s Symphony No. 5.
